In my opinion, the gladiatorial games were not fair at all because imagine you could have your life ended and the only way you can survive is if you fight well enough and take someones life, and if you don't fight well your life is in the hands who knows nothing about you and people who just want to see you cut down. However back in the time of gladiator fights they were immensely popular and it kept people entertained which is very clear because gladiator games continued all the way up to 399 AD. It was also a good deterrent because it did reduce crime and in a way it was justice, because if you murdered someone you would probably be killed apart from you may survive so if anyone was condemned to death they would probably prefer to be a gladiator and have a tiny chance of survival then being executed and having no chance of survival.
To conclude although there were many positives and maybe more positives than negatives, i still think that it was a terrible way to punish people because if you murdered someone and then became a gladiator, then effectively you would have to murder again and again and again if you wanted to get out alive. also i think that even a murderer should not have to have an uncivilized death like a gladiator would, and some gladiators hadn't even done anything wrong some of them were just people from towns that got invaded by the Romans and were made slaves and then turned into gladiators. With all of this in mind i do not think that gladiatorial games should've ever happened and that it is not a part of history that anyone should be proud of.
